Restoring missing icons, empty desktop, files and folders after Windows XP Recovery (Windows Recovery) virus presence
Windows XP Recovery is a virus of which we told you about in several of our previous posts. Windows XP Recovery is know to carry out the following amendments on your workstation:
- Your files and folders seem to be gone(missing).
- Your desktop is missing, as well as the icons on it. You cannot right-click your desktop either.
- The programs in the Start menu are also hidden.
In order to restore your missing files and folders you need to download and run our free tool developed by GridinSoft Trojan Killer from this site: www.trojan-killer.net/download/unhider.exe
In order to restore your desktop and icons on it you need to modify the following registry entries via “regedit” program:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
“NoChangingWallPaper”=dword:00000000 - [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
“NoDesktop”=dword:00000000 - [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
“DisableTaskMgr”=dword:00000000
